Event presenters: Andrew Garcia, Tony Torres, Victor Nelson. Great Lakes ADA Center session on adaptive sports programs.

Tony Torres, President of Unified Motion and Board Member of the World WCMX Federation, had the honor of presenting an educational webinar hosted by the Great Lakes ADA Center, highlighting accessibility, inclusion, and adaptive recreation. The session introduced WCMX (Wheelchair Motocross) and Adaptive Skateboarding to professionals, program coordinators, and advocates working to expand adaptive recreation opportunities in their communities.

The panel included:

  • Andrew Garcia, Executive Director and Lead Coach, Ability Skateboarding
  • Victor Nelson, Director of Operations, Action Park Alliance
  • Tony Torres, President/Board Member, World WCMX Federation

Together, the panel shared insights on the history and evolution of WCMX and adaptive skateboarding, the specialized equipment involved, and practical strategies for creating safe, inclusive spaces for athletes of all abilities.

The webinar emphasized that these sports are about more than ramps and wheels—they’re powerful tools for building confidence, promoting health, and strengthening communities. Attendees learned strategies for program development, including collaborating with local skateparks, sourcing adaptive equipment, and fostering environments where new athletes feel welcome and supported.

One of the highlights of the session was the Q&A, which showcased the growing interest in bringing adaptive action sports into more parks, recreation programs, and therapeutic settings nationwide. The thoughtful discussions reinforced the potential to expand access and awareness.

We are grateful to the Great Lakes ADA Center for hosting the webinar and to everyone who attended for their dedication to learning and inclusion. Together, we can continue breaking barriers and keeping all athletes rolling forward.
